Pushing pause on the whirlwinds we create.
I’m a task-driven person to a fault, and I love knowing that I’m using my time well. But far too often I confuse productivity for meaningfulness, and I’ll be the first to tell you those aren’t the same, whatever hustle culture might say.
There are times (I pray for more) amidst the whirlwinds I create when I stop for a breath and realize that the beauty I am running after is not far off and out there, but right here and in the now. “Today, Rest” was written in one of these moments of peaceful clarity, and appreciates the day for itself without my added expectations and agendas.
Restful, sunny, windy day, after-autumn fruit of May, we your company would keep. Tarry: we would hear you speak and share your tales of journeys far, far o’er the earth, beneath the stars. Be our guest and teach us now to end our work, let down the plow. Swift-soon will come the time again to take it up — our backs to bend. For now our guest our hands will stay: this restful, sunny, windy day.
